Desire – perfect world

Joint Exhibition

The longing for an ideal world moves people, especially in times of personal and social shocks and challenges. On September 15, 2023 at 7 p.m., the exhibition on the topic "Longing - ideal world" will open in the Kunstraum Backstube. As part of the vernissage, the artists introduce themselves to one another and take the audience into the creation of the individual works. Ulrike E Sticher will paint live and show part I of her performance "Desire - perfect world".

But what is the desire for a perfect world all about? Is the desire for a perfect world a phantom; just an idea that gives hope, combined with the desire to be able to experience it now and today? Is this desire something that drives people internally to search in order to find and is it perhaps a deep, never-satisfied need of people in the hunt for harmony and peace? What does a perfect world mean? What does it look like and where can we find it? Can we create one or will it remain just a sweet dream?

Diversity in a Square – Diversity in Togetherness

group exhibition

The "Artists Night" organized by "K im Fluss" has been taking place in the Orangery Darmstadt since 2014. The exhibition "Vielfalt im Quadrat – Vielfalt im Miteinander" (Diversity in a Square – Diversity in Togetherness) provides an insight into the highlights of previous events, into the joint creation of art and the solidarity between artists.

The artists involved come from Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia, Baden-Württemberg and Cyprus. The exhibition shows, on one hand, the diversity of the participants in their expression and level of development as artists and, on the other hand, how collaboration can be possible in this diversity and can lead to great results.

Woman Life Freedom

with 3 Iranian artists

The exhibition "Woman Life Freedom" gives the people on the streets of Iran a voice and a moment to be seen. It is a solidarity with the Iranians living in exile and all those who are fighting for a free and democratic life in their home country.

The exhibiting artists are Samira Jamali (photography), Marzie Amini (painting) and Bersabeh Farahani (collage and installation). Jamali works as a photographer in the Association for International Forest Art, Darmstadt and is showing pictures in this exhibition that make the beauty of Iran visible. In her paintings, Amini deals with the inner turmoil of women, the emotional challenge of wanting to be and yet not being able to be. Farahani's works confront the viewer with the faces of people who have been imprisoned, executed and died as a result of torture. The installations show journalists, artists, students, women and men who have been arrested for demonstrating in the streets or for being near a demonstration, or simply for speaking out, singing, writing, dancing.

Open Studio Days

Where are you, my soul?

"Where are you, my soul?" is the title of the joint exhibition by 8 artists from China, Turkey, Finland and Germany, who have dealt with loss, suffering, hope and the associated emotions in very different ways.

The exhibition will open with a vernissage on September 4 at 3 pm in the Kunstraum Backstube and can then be visited until October 7 during the regular opening hours of the Kunstraum Backstube on Thursdays and Saturdays from 11 am to 2 pm and Fridays from 3 pm to 7 pm.

The Kunstraum Backstube is taking part in the open studio days of the South Hessian Cultural Summer with this exhibition on September 17 and 18, 2022. The performance “Fußgänger” (pedestrian) can be experienced live at 3 pm on both days. Jialu Yang (composition) and Dingjin Ma (flute) present their performance “Fußgänger” (pedestrian) in an unusual interplay of movement, voice, flute and video sequences. The title is from a Chinese poem that is more than 1000 years old. The movements are inspired by Butoh dance.

Christmas Art Market 2021
December 4, 2021 to January 15, 2022

Christmas Art Market

designed by Eberstadt artists and friends

Eberstadt artists and friends exhibit large and small works of art. In addition to regional landscape painting, you can find abstract art using various techniques (acrylic painting, printing, geliprint, collages, etc.) as well as sculptures and art cards.

Due to the current Covid regulations, we are unfortunately not able to implement the Christmas art market in the originally planned form. That's why we created a new format at short notice and designed a shop window art market.

We hope and wish that this form of art presentation will enrich your Christmas joy.
